Thanks for sharing, @ANNIEDUKE. We've been studying the relationship between level of connection to one's work and resilience level for years. We created a 3-step model of job connection. Level 1 is pay/benefits. Level 2 is the work and the people. Level 3 is making a bigger difference. Turns out there's a stepwise increase in both job satisfaction and resilience at each level. Seems like having a clear line-of-sight to how what we're doing makes a difference makes us a bit happier and more stress-tolerant. We've also built a 4-step model of life connection. Level 1 is Personal. Level 2 is Family, Level 3 is Community. Level 4 is Faith/Spirituality. Again we've found a stepwise increase in both life satisfaction and resilience at each level. The best news is that once we're aware of what level we're connecting at, we can learn to think our way to the next level and enjoy the benefits. The reality is that it's impossible for some people to find Level 3 meaning in their work. I love how in your conversation with Christopher and Jennifer you acknowledged this and explored finding meaning both inside and outside of work.
